Handmade Xuan Ling Da Hong Pao Clay Teapot
Handmade Xuan Ling Da Hong Pao Clay Teapot
Handmade by the same potter in Yixing, China who creates the Pan Hu teapot, this Xuan Ling shape Yixing teapot is half-handmade using original mine clay. Da Hong Pao clay comes from the west side of the Fudong township of Yixing in Jiangsu province. High in iron oxide, it takes on a crimson color after roasting in a kiln. This is high density clay of exquisite quality with a high degree of crystallization. The Da Hong Pao clay teapot makes the taste of tea becomes soft, smooth and the flavor is very long lasting.
Zisha (紫砂) clay from Yixing is highly valued because of the porous nature of the clay. As you use it, oils from your tea moisturize the pot, which can in turn season it and enhances the flavor of the tea that you use it with over time. For this reason, we recommend dedicating your new Yixing teapot to one type of tea only, such as ripe puer, raw puer, oolong, black tea, etc, and never wash it with soap or anything else besides water.

Additional Information:
It’s food safe, of course. I strongly recommend that you wash it only with water, and use it gently. Please do not use soap to wash or rinse your pot because it might also absorb the scent from the soap. You can also use a bamboo handle brush to gently wipe away excess water during and after using any porous clay pots (Yixing, Jianshui) to help ensure it develops an even finish.
