Yixing Flat Shi Piao Jiang Po Ni Clay Teapot

Yixing Flat Shi Piao Jiang Po Ni Clay Teapot

$149.00

This flat Shi Piao shape teapot was handmade in Yixing, China using a mixture of original Yixing Jiang Po Ni clay. Engraved on the body of this teapot are Chinese characters which translate to “serve tea." And on the bottom of the teapot, there is an engraved traditional Chinese poem that describes a serene setting... there is spring snow on the plum blossom flowers, and inside a house surrounded by mountains, people wait unhurriedly for water to boil. The potter's unique seal hides on the inside of the teapot. We particularly like the teapot's unpretentious appearance, smooth texture, and the peacefulness found in the meaning of the engravings.

Jiang Po Ni is a type of paragenic clay. The original clay mineral contains Duan clay, Red Clay (Hong Ni), Purple clay (Zi Ni) and other paragenic clays. So this special clay integrates much goodness of other clays. Jiang Po Ni features an oil/moisturized dark brown appearance, and the granules of the clay look similar to a pear’s skin. Jiang Po Ni has very good air penetrability, and it’s very conducive to tea steeping. It won't over brew the tea leaves and bring unpleasant stewed flavor to your tea.

Jiang Po Ni clay from Yixing is highly valued because of its porous nature. As you use it, oils from your tea moisturize the pot, which over time can enhance the flavor of the tea that you brew in it. For this reason, we recommend dedicating your new teapot to one type of tea only. Particularly for our flat shi piao teapot, we recommend you to dedicate it to a fermented tea such as ripe puerh, oolong, black tea, etc. Try to skip tea which has a strong/high aroma such as Dancong Oong, Tie Guan Yin, Wuyi Rougui, etc., because the clay might absorb the high aroma from your tea.

Additional Information:

It’s food safe, of course. I strongly recommend that you wash it only with water, and use it gently. Please do not use soap to wash or rinse your pot because it might also absorb the scent from the soap. You can also use a bamboo handle brush to gently wipe away excess water during and after using any porous clay pots (Yixing, Jianshui) to help ensure it develops an even finish.
