Born on the misty mountain sides of China, tea leaves have traveled centuries and miles to reach the modern tea table. Many people drink tea, but few know the traditional brewing techniques for making an intoxicating cup of Chinese tea. In this workshop, we will focus on a variety of techniques for tea brewing, starting with bowl and spoon green tea brewing.
We will take a break from our fast-paced chaotic lives and immerse ourselves in the serene and harmonious practice of the traditional tea ceremony. You will learn how to select the proper teaware, arrange your tea set, hold the gaiwan/teapot and its proper motions, and how to pour the tea.
Those are all delicate and beautiful movements, with tradition and purpose. When the aroma finally greets your nose and the tea is savored with people around you, it can be a special moment of shared delight.
