Handmade Ba Le Shui Ping Aged Zhu Ni Clay Teapot
Handmade Ba Le Shui Ping Aged Zhu Ni Clay Teapot
Handmade by a potter in Yixing, China, this mini shui ping shaped Yixing teapot is made of aged original mine clay. The clay was privately stored since the late 80s before the potter used it. Aged Zhuni is a rare type of Zisha (紫砂) Clay in Yixing, known for its outstanding performance in creating teapots. Different from the regular mine clay, the aged zhuni clay has a rough appearance and more complicated texture. Due to its coarse texture, it's more challenging to control the temperature in a kiln in order to achieve an even appearance with a dark red finish. We especially like the clay quality and pointy/straight spout of this teapot.
Zhuni clay contains extremely fine particles; therefore it is very sticky and elastic. It also has two distinct characteristics:
1. Clay is rich in iron
2. Clay contains less percentage of zinc, copper or magnesium.
Zisha (紫砂) clay from Yixing is highly valued because of the porous nature of the clay. As you use it, oils from your tea moisturize the pot, which can in turn, season it and enhance the flavor of the tea that you use it with over time. For this reason, we recommend dedicating your new Yixing teapot to one type of tea only, such as ripe puer, raw puer, oolong, black tea, etc., and never wash it with soap or anything else besides water.

Additional Information:
It’s food safe, of course. I strongly recommend that you wash it only with water, and use it gently. Please do not use soap to wash or rinse your pot because it might also absorb the scent from the soap. You can also use a bamboo handle brush to gently wipe away excess water during and after using any porous clay pots (Yixing, Jianshui) to help ensure it develops an even finish.
