Handmade Pear Shape Zhao Zhuang Zhu Ni Clay Teapot

Handmade Pear Shape Zhao Zhuang Zhu Ni Clay Teapot

$160.00

Handmade by a potter from Yixing, China, this classic pear shaped Yixing teapot is made of original Zhaozhuang Zhu Ni clay. The Zhaozhuang Zhu Ni clay has an especially smooth surface, and the texture is natural and refined. We especially like the silk smooth texture of the clay and delicate shape design of this teapot.

Zhuni is a type of Zisha (紫砂 Clay in Yixing, and it's known for its outstanding performance in creating teapots. The Zhuni teapot makes the taste of tea soft and smooth, with long-lasting flavor.

We met Master Zhang on our trip to Yixing in the summer of 2018. In her words, whether a potter is great or not, doesn’t rely on the rewards or certification that one receives, but Instead, every single teapot that the potter makes speaks to his/her reputation. And so she is very careful with every detail of every teapot that she creates. This particular flat pear shape teapot is one of her masterworks.

Zhuni clay contains extremely fine particles, therefore it is very sticky and elastic. It also has two distinguish characteristics:
1. Clay is rich in iron
2. Clay contains less percentage of zinc, copper or magnesium.

Zisha (紫砂) clay from Yixing is highly valued because of the porous nature of the clay. As you use it, oils from your tea moisturize the pot, which can in turn season it and enhances the flavor of the tea that you use it with over time. For this reason, we recommend dedicating your new Yixing teapot to one type of tea only, such as ripe puer, raw puer, oolong, black tea, etc, and never wash it with soap or anything else besides water.

Additional Information:

It’s food safe, of course. I strongly recommend that you wash it only with water, and use it gently. Please do not use soap to wash or rinse your pot because it might also absorb the scent from the soap. You can also use a bamboo handle brush to gently wipe away excess water during and after using any porous clay pots (Yixing, Jianshui) to help ensure it develops an even finish.
