Handmade Hei Liao Ox Inspired Shi Piao Teapot

Handmade Hei Liao Ox Inspired Shi Piao Teapot

$179.00

Handmade by a potter in Yixing, China, this shipiao shape yixing teapot is handmade using a mixture of original yixing clay. The design is inspired by the ox. The black clay is named "Hei Liao" in Chinese. Original zini mine clay sets the base of this type of clay, and it is mixed with 40 Mu Duanni clay. It's similar to zini clay (purple clay). The clay breathes very well and welcomes a variety of teas.

The body of the teapot is carved with a classic poem written by Su Shi in Chinese characters. We particularly like the sophisticated look and classic shipiao shape of this teapot.

Zisha (紫砂) clay from Yixing is highly valued because of the porous nature of the clay. As you use it, oils from your tea moisturize the pot, which can in turn season it and enhance the flavor of the tea that you use it with over time. For this reason, we recommend dedicating your new Yixing teapot to one type of tea only. Particularly for our hei liao clay teapot, we recommend you to dedicate it to ripe puerh, oolong, black tea, etc. It interacts exceptionally well with aged teas.

Never wash it with soap or anything else besides water.

Additional Information:

It’s food safe, of course. I strongly recommend that you wash it only with water, and use it gently. Please do not use soap to wash or rinse your pot because it might also absorb the scent from the soap. You can also use a bamboo handle brush to gently wipe away excess water during and after using any porous clay pots (Yixing, Jianshui) to help ensure it develops an even finish.
