Handmade Xiao Ju Lun Duanni Clay Teapot
Handmade Xiao Ju Lun Duanni Clay Teapot
This Xiao Ju Lun Duanni Yixing teapot was handmade in Yixing of aged/old duan ni clay. On close inspection, you will find tiny black grains. These grains are found in red iron ore, and they turn black under high temperature.
It’s slightly darker than our Jiayi Duanni Teapot, and the texture of the clay is more sandy and rough. If our Jiayi teapot is a modern young guy, then this teapot looks more sophisticated and classic.
“Xiao Ju Lun” in Chinese literally means “little large boat”. It’s “little” because the capacity of this teapot is around 140 ml which is considered as a small Yixing teapot. "“Large boat” is used to describe the shape of this teapot because it has a large round base to allow your tea to circulate/move. It’s a perfect shape for big tea leaves. There is no built-in filter for this teapot, but it comes with a stainless filter.
Zisha (紫砂) clay from Yixing is highly valued because of the porous nature of the clay. As you use it, oils from your tea moisturize the pot, which over time can enhance the flavor of the tea that you brew in it. For this reason, we recommend dedicating your new Yixing teapot to one type of tea only.
Particularly for our old duanni clay teapot, we recommend you to dedicate it to a lighter colored tea, such as young sheng puer, greenish oolong, green tea, white tea, etc., that way your teapot won’t pick up a brownish “dirty” color if you forget to clean it after each usage. However, if you prefer an evenly brownish look, dedicating your teapot to an aged tea such as aged puerh or black tea might be desirable. And that’s actually what our potter prefers. All in all, duanni clay is regarded as one of the most “breathable” clays in Yixing. It responds pretty well with your tea. As long as you clean your teapot after each usage, and give a little bit more care to the pot, you won’t be disappointed by the finish.

Additional Information:
It’s food safe, of course. I strongly recommend that you wash it only with water, and use it gently. Please do not use soap to wash or rinse your pot because it might also absorb the scent from the soap. You can also use a bamboo handle brush to gently wipe away excess water during and after using any porous clay pots (Yixing, Jianshui) to help ensure it develops an even finish.
