Handmade Ju Lun Zhu Yixing Teapot (Hongni Clay)

Handmade Ju Lun Zhu Yixing Teapot (Hongni Clay)

$110.00

Handmade by a potter from Yixing, China. This Ju Lun Zhu shape Yixing teapot is handmade using original mine clay. Hongni (Red clay) is a type of Zisha (紫砂)Clay in Yixing, and it is known for its outstanding performance in creating teapots.

The red clay is located at the bottom of a clay mine. So it is very scarce. The high pressure also makes it very hard. It is also known as hongni or zhuni (in Chinese). It probably is the most sought-after of all clay type. The raw clay materials is orangy yellow. After firing, it can have various shades of red and purple, depending on the level of iron it contains.

Jun Lun Zhu is a classic and traditional shape in Yixing teapots. The design of this shape is very simple and practical: the wide open mouth of the teapot allows you to clean the teapot easily; the straight spout of the teapot pours your tea quickly; and the long body of the teapot allows you to welcome any shapes of tea. Everything is out of convenience and performance, while to the eye, it's a simple beauty.

Zisha (紫砂) clay from Yixing is highly valued because of the porous nature of the clay. As you use it, oils from your tea moisturize the pot, which can in turn season it and enhances the flavor of the tea that you use it with over time. For this reason, we recommend dedicating your new Yixing teapot to one type of tea only. Particularly for our hongni clay teapot, we recommend you to dedicate it to a tea which has strong/high aroma such as Dancong Oong, Tie Guan Yin, Wuyi Rougui, etc.

Never wash it with soap or anything else besides water.

Additional Information:

It’s food safe, of course. I strongly recommend that you wash it only with water, and use it gently. Please do not use soap to wash or rinse your pot because it might also absorb the scent from the soap. You can also use a bamboo handle brush to gently wipe away excess water during and after using any porous clay pots (Yixing, Jianshui) to help ensure it develops an even finish.
