Handmade Jiayi Duanni Clay Teapot
Handmade Jiayi Duanni Clay Teapot
This Jiayi Duanni Yixing teapot was handmade in Yixing of original aged mine golden duanni clay, and gets its name from its golden yellow appearance. On close inspection, you will find tiny black grains. These grains are found in red iron ore, and they turn black under high temperature.
Its shape is divided by four lines and made into five melon pieces. There are two lines on each side of this teapot. It’s inspired by “Yin” and “Yang” philosophy. Both concave and raised lines create a well-aligned and harmonious look. The lid follows the oval shape of the teapot. Compared with a round lid, it takes more effort and technique to form and polish. The design of the half moon spout makes the pour easy and smooth, and it echos the entire flow of the lines.
Zisha (紫砂) clay from Yixing is highly valued because of the porous nature of the clay. As you use it, oils from your tea moisturize the pot, which over time can enhance the flavor of the tea that you brew in it. For this reason, we recommend dedicating your new Yixing teapot to one type of tea only.
Particularly for our aged duanni clay teapot, we recommend you to dedicate it to a lighter colored tea, such as young sheng puer, greenish oolong, green tea, white tea, etc., that way your teapot won’t pick up a brownish “dirty” color if you forget to clean it after each usage. However, if you prefer an evenly brownish look, dedicating your teapot to an aged tea such as aged puerh or black tea might be desirable. And that’s actually what our potter prefers. All in all, duan ni clay is regarded as one of the most “breathable” clays in Yixing. It responds pretty well with your tea. As long as you clean your teapot after each usage, and give a little bit more care to the pot, you won’t be disappointed by the finish.
Never wash it with soap or anything else besides water.

Additional Information:
It’s food safe, of course. I strongly recommend that you wash it only with water, and use it gently. Please do not use soap to wash or rinse your pot because it might also absorb the scent from the soap. You can also use a bamboo handle brush to gently wipe away excess water during and after using any porous clay pots (Yixing, Jianshui) to help ensure it develops an even finish.
