Bamboo Carved Da Hong Pao Shi Piao Teapot
Bamboo Carved Da Hong Pao Shi Piao Teapot
Handmade by a potter from Yixing, China, this classic Shi Piao shape Yixing teapot was handmade with original mine clay. Da Hong Pao clay comes from the west side of the Fudong township of Yixing in Jiangsu province. High in iron oxide, it takes on a crimson color after roasting in a kiln. It is high-density clay of exquisite quality with a high degree of crystallization. The Da Hong Pao clay teapot softens the taste of tea, and gives it a smooth and long-lasting flavor.
The surface of this teapot is ultra smooth with a glossy appearance. The body of the teapot is carefully engraved with bamboo leaves and Chinese characters which can be translated as “joy and leisure in the bamboo forest." The bottom of the teapot features three stands which provide a steady and stereoscopic look. And built into the teapot is a 9-hole in-wall filter. We particularly like the sophisticated engraving and classic shape of this teapot.
Zisha (紫砂) clay from Yixing is highly valued because of the porous nature of the clay. As you use it, oils from your tea moisturize the pot, which can in turn season it and enhances the flavor of the tea that you use it with over time. For this reason, we recommend dedicating your new Yixing teapot to one type of tea only, such as ripe puer, raw puer, oolong, black tea, etc.
Never wash it with soap or anything else besides water.

Additional Information:
It’s food safe, of course. I strongly recommend that you wash it only with water, and use it gently. Please do not use soap to wash or rinse your pot because it might also absorb the scent from the soap. You can also use a bamboo handle brush to gently wipe away excess water during and after using any porous clay pots (Yixing, Jianshui) to help ensure it develops an even finish.
