Handmade Duan Ni Clay Carved Shi Piao Teapot
Handmade Duan Ni Clay Carved Shi Piao Teapot
This teapot was handmade in Yixing of qing hui duan ni clay, which is original duan ni mine clay mixed with zi ni clay. On close inspection, you will find rough brown and black grains. These grains are found in red iron ore, and they turn dark under high temperature.
The texture of the clay is sandy and rough. The body of the teapot is carved with the Heart Sutra in Chinese characters. We particularly like the sophisticated look and classic shape of this teapot.
Zisha (紫砂) clay from Yixing is highly valued because of the porous nature of the clay. As you use it, oils from your tea moisturize the pot, which over time can enhance the flavor of the tea that you brew in it. For this reason, we recommend dedicating your new Yixing teapot to one type of tea only. Particularly for our qing hui duanni clay teapot, we recommend you to dedicate it to fermented tea such as ripe puerh, oolong, black tea, etc.

Additional Information:
It’s food safe, of course. I strongly recommend that you wash it only with water, and use it gently. Please do not use soap to wash or rinse your pot because it might also absorb the scent from the soap. You can also use a bamboo handle brush to gently wipe away excess water during and after using any porous clay pots (Yixing, Jianshui) to help ensure it develops an even finish.
