Hand-painted Phoenix Spirit Animal Teacup
Hand-painted Phoenix Spirit Animal Teacup
Handmade and painted by an artist in Jingdezhen, China, the glaze of this teacup features natural smokey and wheat-like hues. The glossy finish is the result of direct exposure to fire and ash over a long period of time. The two characters on the teacup, “凤鸽“, can be translated as “phoenix”. The Chinese classic text 山海经 (the Classic of Mountain and Seas) describes this mythical beast as the king of all the birds, it represents great fortune and prosperity in Chinese culture.
Traditional wood-fired kilns have become rare in China today. The laborious process of wood-firing creates unique and natural glazing that can’t be achieved in more common and easier-to-use electric kilns. The special texture, color, and pattern of wood-fired teaware make it some of the most sought-after teaware today, so don’t miss your chance to own one!
