Handmade Flame Wood Fired Gaiwan

Handmade Flame Wood Fired Gaiwan
Handmade by a potter in Jingdezhen, China, this unglazed gaiwan features a natural flame and light green tone. We particularly like the rustic texture, yet delicate shape, and unique wood-fired effects.
Traditional wood-fired kilns have become rare in China today. The laborious process of wood-firing creates unique, natural glazing, that can’t be achieved in more common and easier to use electric kilns. The special texture, color, and pattern of wood-fired teaware is a result of direct exposure to fire and ash over a long period, making wood-fired teaware some of the most sought-after teaware today.

It’s food safe, of course. And dishwasher safe. However, I strongly recommend that you wash and dry it by hand, and use it gently. Please do not use on an open flame, gas or electric stove-top. And try to avoid alternating hot and cold, which could cause cracking.
