Wood Fired The Gobi Desert Fair Cup

Wood Fired The Gobi Desert Fair Cup

$78.00

Handmade by the same potter who creates the “Wood Fired Rough Clay Teapot” in Quanzhou, Fujian, this fair cup features a layered, natural orange glaze with a matte finish. The texture and pattern calls to mind images of the Gobi Desert. It was created with rough clay, and the unique appearance is a result of direct exposure to fire and ash over a long period while in the kiln.

Traditional wood-fired kilns have become rare in China today. The laborious process of wood-firing creates a unique, natural glazing, that can’t be achieved in more common and easier to use electric kilns. The special texture, color, and pattern of wood-fired teaware is a result of direct exposure to fire and ash over a long period, making wood-fired teaware some of the most sought-after teaware today.
