Handmade Qinghua “The Four Gentlemen” Gaiwan Set
Handmade Qinghua “The Four Gentlemen” Gaiwan Set
This particular gaiwan set features a theme of “Four Gentlemen”. In Chinese culture, "Four Gentlemen" (四君子) refers to a group of four plants that are often admired for their symbolic qualities and are frequently depicted in traditional Chinese art and literature. Each of these plants represents a specific virtue or quality and is associated with different seasons:
Plum Blossom (梅, méi): The plum blossom is admired for its resilience and purity. It blooms in the winter, even in harsh conditions, symbolizing endurance and hope in the face of adversity.
Orchid (兰, lán): The orchid represents nobility, integrity, and modesty. It is admired for its delicate beauty and its ability to flourish in seclusion, symbolizing the virtuous qualities of a scholar.
Bamboo (竹, zhú): Bamboo is a symbol of strength, flexibility, and integrity. It bends with the wind but doesn't break, symbolizing resilience and adaptability.
Chrysanthemum (菊, jú): The chrysanthemum symbolizes longevity and fidelity. It is associated with autumn and is often used to convey wishes for a long and happy life.
We especially like the garden painting style of the "Four Gentlemen." It's unquestionably one of those rare pieces that can be cherished and handed down from one generation to the next. The entire set includes a gaiwan with a matching saucer and four teacups.
