Handmade Gobi Desert Soda-Fired Gaiwan

Handmade Gobi Desert Soda-Fired Gaiwan

$499.00

Is this gold? We know, it’s probably one of the most expensive gaiwans we have ever curated. This Gobi desert texture-like gaiwan is handcrafted by a studio specializing in soda-fired teaware in Jingdezhen, China. It features a distinctive smoky grey and rose pink glaze, offering a finish that transitions between glossy and partially matte. Crafted from refined clay, it undergoes a firing process where soda is added, resulting in its unique texture, pattern, and coloration.

We’ve encountered many soda-fired teaware pieces over the years, but we’ve never seen a naturally created piece as unique as this. Due to its rarity, uniqueness, and high breakage rate, it becomes an expensive collection item that can be passed down through generations.

Additional Information:

It’s food safe, of course. And also dishwasher safe. However, I strongly recommend that you wash and dry it by hand, and use it gently. Please do not use on an open flame, gas or electric stove-top. And try to avoid alternating hot and cold, which could cause cracking.
